What’s the worst possible thing you can call a woman? Don’t hold back, now.
You’re probably thinking of words like slut, whore, bitch, cunt (I told you not to hold back!), skank.
Okay, now, what are the worst things you can call a guy? Fag, girl, bitch, pussy. I’ve even heard the term “mangina.”
Notice anything? The worst thing you can call a girl is a girl. The worst thing you can call a guy is a girl. Being a woman is the ultimate insult. Now tell me that’s not royally fucked up.
In an all-too-rare show of bipartisanship, 15 Senate Republicans joined with the Democratic majority last month to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, the landmark 1994 law that is key to efforts against domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
Unfortunately, the lopsided 68-to-31 Senate vote halted G.O.P. opponents only temporarily. The House Judiciary Committee last week approved its version of the reauthorization bill, which not only omits improvements the Senate bill made to the law but also removes existing protections for immigrant women, putting them at greater risk of domestic and sexual abuse.
The Senate’s measure ensures that victims are not denied services because they are gay or transgender. It also strives to ensure that domestic violence crimes committed by non-Indian men in tribal communities are prosecuted. The Senate bill also would modestly expand the availability of special U-visas for undocumented immigrants who are victims of domestic violence. That move was supported by law enforcement to encourage victims to come forward and testify against their abusers.
The regressive House alternative removes these and other improvements, including new protections for students on college campuses. The House measure would eliminate a confidentiality requirement in current law that protects the identity of immigrant women who file domestic violence complaints against a spouse who is a citizen or legal resident and allows the women to apply for legal status on their own.
House Republicans claim there is a big fraud problem in this area, but there is no hard evidence of that. And their plan to end the centralized handling of these issues by a Vermont-based office would undermine the government’s ability to detect untruthful stories.
House members on both sides of the aisle who are serious about combating domestic violence must work to defeat this atrocious bill. If that fails, the Senate will need to insist on fixing it during the reconciliation process.

Would love to hear my Republican / conservative followers defend their party on this, please.

I have an essay to write, and Microsoft spell check doesn’t think “heteronormativity” is a word.
I first read “fate” as “face.” I think it could still be applicable.

Take a look at this photo. This photograph was chosen by World Press Photo as one of the best photographs taken this year. This woman, Inna Shevchenko, is one of the leaders of Femen, a feminist Ukrainian Protest Group. Here she was protesting against sex tourism, sexism, and social problems. While I admire her bravery and courage to stand outside and protest the hyper-sexuality of women in such a bold way, some members of my photography class do not. Comments such as the following were rampant:
“I mean, it’s cool that she took her top off, but it’s pointless.”
“She could use some ab work, look at that chub.”
and my personal favorite:
“She’s just asking for men to gawk at her and stare at her tits.”
Instead of admiring this strong woman for standing up for her rights, the men of the class only focused on her breasts and body, making her into an object to be criticized and critiqued, as if she is on display to impress them. Just because she decided to take her shirt off does not in fact give you license to criticize her stomach or gawk at her breasts. And it does in fact have a point, and a very important one that these comments exposed to me in my class today. Even strong women attempting to take part in a social and political movement and make a real statement get reduced down to single body parts.
Unfortunately, this kind of objectification and sexism exists even when presented with a photograph in a professional context. Those who say that feminism is a waste of time are wrong. While we may be equal to men on paper, in reality, it is far from that. As a woman myself, I say we need to keep going until women are regarded the same as men in every aspect of life.
I get such a lady boner for feminist theory, damn. It’s like a drug, or therapy, it’s really therapeutic.
Fuck I love theory so hard.
reposting this bc i love it so much
Congratulations, you’re part of the problem! No gold star for you though, you’re essentially 99% of the population.
And trying to end Rape Culture isn’t comparable to committing genocide, sorry to say. Not to mention The Final Solution also included killing Feminists. So there’s that.

There is a country where the leading cause of death of pregnant women is murder by a partner. In this same country, more than a million women were raped in 2008 and women are much more likely to live in poverty than men. Local laws don’t protect their right to bodily freedom and integrity; some rape laws even state that once a woman initially consents to sex, she doesn’t have the right to change her mind.
You may have caught on by now — yes, I’m talking about the United States.

There are like a bajillion other things to add here, and the legal system is beyond fucked for other reasons (it’s a for profit system designed to make money by exploiting people of color) but this is good shit to keep in mind when people throw around stuff like “women want special rights”.
